Once upon a time
In a world not-so-faraway
There lived a radiant boy
A soul, painting skies of gray
He chose me as his herald
To find the greatest three
Amongst the sea of fawners
And so, I agreed
It took me little effort
As I sailed the skies above
To unearth the three elite:
Flirt, Like, and Love
I approached the three girls’ minds
“You’ve been chosen,” I declared
“By the boy you adore, so
I will test you, to compare.”
To each I handed a box
To each I uttered these words
“Go and find your prize
See which one he preferred.”
And so I brought their gifts
To the boy who lights the skies
And as he handled each plain box
He unveiled each girl’s great prize
First he opened the box of Flirt
He couldn’t help but gasp
Inside, there lay chains of gold
And a shimmering ruby in his grasp
Next came the box of Like
He gazed within with a smile
Inside laid a painted rose
A gift certainly worthwhile
The last box left belonged to Love
But his face bore little glee
For inside, there was nothing
By far, the humblest of the three
“What’s this?” he exclaimed
But stopped, for he heard
The voice of an angel
A song without word
Ten years then passed
The gifts would depart
Other men claimed the jewel
As well as Flirt’s heart
The carving of Like
She believed it would last
But the colors quickly faded
And her feelings would pass
Yet the empty box of Love
Containing the mysterious song
Rang true each time it was opened
It helped the boy stand strong
Her care for him was boundless
No matter when or where
So she put inside her box
Her soul, her song, her prayer
Flirt’s aim was to make him smile
Like’s hopes were to make him smile
Love’s life was to make him smile
