Tasting The Rain
March 1, 2008Take the first step
The dust sweeps in clouds around you
Auburn beneath your feet
Crunching, snapping
Like the jaws of a hyena
The black seat
Standing cold and alone
Beckoning, beckoning
You sit
Pushing off like a paper airplane
Rising like the wisp of smoke
Higher, higher
Back and forth
Back and forth
Melting into the lavender and pink
Patience
You become a bird
Flying, flying
Yet without the feathered wings
Gazing far into the painted desert before you
Overflowing bursts of crimson, orange
Canary yellow, violet, ultramarine
Warm gray
The sky on the canvas
Close your eyes
Become blind yet see
See a whole new world
More lovely than the one God gave us here
Flashing shades soar past you
Whooshing past your ear
Like the eternal rushing of wind
Laughter
No longer knowing who it belongs to
All the joy melded into one voice
Singing the song of the eagles
And the song of companionship
Open your mouth
Shriek
With your pure soul
Regardless of those around you
Knowing nothing anymore
Knowing no places
Knowing no people
Knowing nothing that belongs to this life
With a blank mind
As you leap into the air
Lift back your head
Pull out your tongue
Taste the rain
Fall back into the arms of the world
Suddenly, ascending back into that canvas
That canvas with the masterpiece
The artist
Being the Lord our God
Let go
And let yourself fall into the heavens
And never come back
